As part of BCN’s activities to enhance the research around alternative care issues, in 2009 BCN launched the BCN Working Paper Series. Working in partnership with BCN Steering Committee members and partners, the series will include one-two working papers per year analyzing key issues around alternative care and enhanced child protection. The purpose of the series is to enhance the body of alternative care literature and tools and to stimulate debate and further research.

The Series, which will be available on the BCN website in 2013, will cover the spectrum of family and community based care options, specifically kinship care, foster care, domestic and inter-country adoption, institutional care, children in emergencies, and enhanced protection for children affected by HIV/AIDS. Through the Series, BCN aims to generate an interconnected set of evidence-based resources that condense global thinking, highlight best practice examples, and identify priority actions.
