Mapping of Child Protection Accountability Mechanisms in Armed Conflict in Africa

Save the Children

Through the programme “Integrating Child Protection within the African Peace and Security Architecture”, Save the Children sought to institute and monitor a functional accountability framework on child protection within the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities and Mechanisms as well as troop-contributing countries. In keeping with this objective, the first phase of the project mapped the relevant means of holding actors accountable for violations committed against children by assessing the child protection-relevant accountability mechanisms in situations of armed conflict. The exercise focused on the role of peace support operations so as to influence implementation of strategic approaches aimed at enhancing accountability for violations against girls and boys within the context of armed conflict.
