Beyond CPS: Developing an Effective System for Helping Children in “Neglectful” Families

In this article, the author addresses the topic of child neglect, or allegations thereof, as it relates to children and families in the Child Welfare System in the United States. While reports of physical and sexual abuse have been on the decline, Wald says, 70% of children reported to child protective services are reported due to allegations of neglect. Furthermore, neglect is closely related to poverty, says the author. This article offers an exploration of these issues and proposes a different approach.
