Italy and Libya signed on December 20 an agreement allowing the evacuation of 1,500 vulnerable migrants from Libya to Italy, over the next 3 years.

The agreement, which was sponsored by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and other organizations, comes within the framework of international efforts to help migrants fleeing their countries due to war, violence and conflict.

According to the Italian News Agency, the agreement includes those stranded in Libya, especially children and women who are victims of human trafficking, survivors of violence and torture, and those suffering from serious health problems.
