Foster parents allowed child care leave under new law

The Japan Times

Beginning next January, foster parents in Japan who intend to adopt a child in their care will be granted one year of child care leave under a new law enacted this week, according to this article from the Japan Times. “Children who have been separated from their biological family due to abuse, death or other reasons are considered to be in need of constant care by a new family for some time,” says the article. This law will allow foster parents to take time off to care for foster children without losing employment, thus enabling more foster families to provide full-time care.
