The state of Indiana in the US has just opened the country’s first “baby boxes” at two fire stations in Northern Indiana, according to this article from Wyfi. The baby boxes serve as safe locations where people can anonymously drop off unwanted newborns. The boxes operate under Indiana’s Safe Haven law which allows parents to give up unwanted babies at designated safe places such as hospitals and fire stations.
