The lack of accessible information is a barrier to further exploration and understanding of out-of-home care in Asia. Definitions of alternative care are unclear and in many contexts non-existent.

The child protection sector lacks a robust evidence-base conveying what effective support during the recovery and reintegration process for children affected by child sexual exploitation (CSE) looks like. This report starts to collate evidence on what appears to be important to children who have experienced sexual exploitation. Employing focus groups and participant-observation, this exploratory study examined areas of personal development, knowledge, and skills of young women who were formally in residential care in the Philippines to determine success factors for young women with traumatic histories. Thematic analysis revealed three themes: (1) Psycho-Emotional-Spiritual Well-Being, (2) Cultivating a Fighting Spirit, and (3) Financial Stability.
