The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated inequalities and barriers to social inclusion for people with disabilities. These experiences of social exclusion have been felt to an even greater extent by women with disabilities and under-represented groups of people with disabilities, leading to a range of effects on the operations and priorities of Organisation of People with Disabilities (OPDs). Abstract
Children are one of the most vulnerable groups in almost any population because of their physical and emotional dependence on adults and social status. Their vulnerability is greater in developing countries because of the higher incidence of poverty and fewer social protection mechanisms in place compared to industrialized countries. The social cost of women migrant workers is very high as they leave behind their families and children when they go abroad for livelihood, said speakers at a consultation on Thursday. The Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) organised the consultation on ‘Migration through Gendered Lens: Role of the Media'.
To address the issue, they made a set of recommendations including proper support to the women workers at home.
