In 2017 the Danish Parliament considered introducing baby hatches in Denmark and asked the authors to investigate the extent and causes of child abandonment and various practices and services in relation to prevention of child abandonment in Denmark and other high-income countries. The article deals with the issues of family assistance from the perspective of working with the biological family of a child placed in foster care. Family support, implemented by assistants, consists of helping to overcome difficulties in order to prevent children being taken away and placed in a foster care environment, and when this happens, focusing on seeking change and creating safe conditions for their return. This article presents a study conducted amongst young adults between the ages of 19–35 (N = 67). The aim was to determine the relationship between the about information about foster care families and the attitude of young adults towards them. For this purpose, one group (n = 35) was provided with information preceding the negative behavior of juveniles, and the other group received positive information about development opportunities (n = 32). The presented analyses aim at depicting social discourse concerning the process of care leaving.
