The general objective of the project "Children Come First: Intervention at the border" is to strengthen the system of protection and reception of migrant children arriving in Italy, whether they are separated or accompanied by their parents.
The project aims to strengthen both intervention activities to support and assist minors from when they first enter Italy, at all the main landing sites and at the mainland border crossings. ABSTRACT
This article reflects on the process of the Multi-Country Study on the Drivers of Violence Affecting Children in Italy. We first provide an overview of how we worked with the data sets available and reflect on the gaps in the data collection which emerged from the research process. No child should be forced to leave his or her family and country to escape from wars, dictatorships and extreme poverty. Unfortunately, however, this happens more and more often. This media briefing from Oxfam describes the Italian reception system for unaccompanied minors which "has turned out to be inadequate for protecting lone refugee and migrant children and their rights," according to the report.
Abstract
The arrival of unaccompanied migrant minors in Italy continues to increase. This phenomenon is complex with regard to both the quantity of minors to care for and the fragility, emotional stress and vulnerability of these children. Most of these minors are placed in residential care communities, which represent the classical model of intervention for Italian out-of-home children, but new projects are being developed to create new intervention models in order to improve the care of unaccompanied migrant minors. The present research aimed to describe and compare three new…
Introduction
In European countries, the phenomenon of unaccompanied minors (UAMS) has assumed an increasing quantitative consistency in recent years. In Italy, the policy of reception of these children has been defined as a “young” policy, which is being defined at the very moment in which the phenomenon is revealed. Moreover, it is an occurrence that changes incessantly, shifting extents and features, within a framework of EU policies that in turn affect the national arrangements.
In such a fluctuating and unstable picture, there are many aspects that require specific considerations.…
