Protecting children is paramount for upholding the European values of respect for human rights, dignity and solidarity. The report includes data on the child protection situation for migrant children, particularly the identification, emergency placement and accommodation of unaccompanied children.
The Canary Islands were in the spotlight of international media attention in 2006 when more than 30,000 migrants arrived in rickety boats from West Africa.
