Abstract
Trauma and behavioral health problems among children in foster care are significant and prevalent, affecting their well-being and permanency. Despite the wide scope and magnitude of social and emotional problems among youth in out-of-home care, few child welfare systems have an integrated service response into their routine procedures and practices. This paper describes three federally-funded statewide demonstration sites, which represent northeast, south, and Midwest regions of the U.S., and that aimed to implement trauma and evidence-informed initiatives. Applying implementation…

Description
"Every child's way of being can open doors to wisdom, compassion, and human connection. We need only to listen."
This is among the conclusions that the authors, one of whom is an experienced foster parent and the other a professor of developmental psychology, draw as a result of working with a diverse range of children and families. Inspired by their relationships with families in crisis, the authors began to rethink the traditional foster care models and developed an innovative practice that afforded birth parents the opportunity to reside, under…
Abstract:
The Children and Young Persons Act (2008) places a duty on Local Authorities to accommodate siblings together in care, so far as is reasonably practicable and subject to welfare considerations. Existing reviews of the evidence support the coplacement of siblings in care, unless there is a justifiable, child-centred reason for separation. Five years ago, an Ofsted (2012) survey in England of more than 2000 looked after children found that nearly two thirds (63%) of the youngsters had at least one sibling also in care, yet 71% of these children were not in the same…

In this video from VICE, undocumented children face danger attempting to cross the border in the U.S. from Mexico. Those who end up in detention live in squalid, prison-like conditions.
These Practice Notes highlight the common barriers to traumatic stress screening in child welfare settings. Common barriers include lack of training, lack of time, feeling helpless, fear of offending, unsure of interventions, and a feeling of unease or discomfort.
Abstract: This article talks about the application of the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-Operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption of 1993 in Brazil. Due to socio-economical circumstances, there are many orphans and abandoned children in Brazil that need care, love and attention. Providing these children a new family would give them a chance to build-up a new life in respect to their best interest. This work analyzes Brazilian domestic rules on international adoption, as well as the application of the Convention in Brazil. It criticizes how the Convention is applied in…
