This article offers an account of the authors’ experiences as foster carers for an unaccompanied asylum seeker (and through him, supporting other asylum-seeking boys). This case study explores the arriving process of an unaccompanied minor refugee in Germany and his perception of the psychosocial support he received. Unaccompanied asylum-seeking children present with significant emotional and physical health needs. Family separation as a result of parental deportation of immigrants living in the USA triggers both child and family trauma and economic impact to the state. Introduction
Since 2013, hundreds of thousands of children have arrived in Europe, many travelling unaccompanied and separated from their families. Although, the total number of children arriving decreased by almost 70% between 2016 and 2018, the number of unaccompanied and separated children increased by 31% during this period.
