Knowing how many orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) may require services can enhance the efficiency of programming. The OVC technical working group of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) requested help from MEASURE Evaluation (funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development [USAID]) to develop procedures—preferably using published final reports of standardized surveys such as the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS)—to estimate the sizes of OVC groups having high programmatic priority at the national and subnational levels.

The State of the World’s Children report presents research from around the globe on the status of children, particularly those who are most disadvantaged, and their wellbeing. The report includes data on child health, with a focus on early care and intervention, education, children in poverty, and pathways to equity in these areas. The report includes data on children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS and other causes and the use of social protection and cash transfers to strengthen families and enhance their capacity to provide care to children.

The first-ever State of the World's Fathers report, produced by MenCare, a global fatherhood campaign, provides a periodic, data-driven snapshot of the state of men's contributions to parenting and caregiving globally. The report draws evidence from hundreds of studies and addresses four issues related to fatherhood: unpaid care work in the home; sexual and reproductive health and rights, and maternal, newborn and child health; men's caregiving and violence against children and against women; and child development.
