There is growing global recognition that violence against women and violence against children, and in particular intimate partner violence against women and violence against children by parents or caregivers, intersect in different ways. As global evidence of and interest in these intersections continue to grow, strategies are needed to enhance collaborations across these fields and thus ensure the best outcomes for both women and children.
In response, the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI), the UNICEF Innocenti – Global Office of Research and Foresight, and the United Nations…
Efforts to prevent or respond to intimate partner violence (IPV) and violence against children (VAC) are still disparate worldwide, despite increasing evidence of intersections across these forms of violence. The authors conducted a systematic review to explore interventions that prevent or respond to IPV and VAC by parents or caregivers, aiming to identify common intervention components and mechanisms that lead to a reduction in IPV and VAC.
30 unique interventions from 16 countries were identified, with 20 targeting both IPV and VAC. Key mechanisms for reducing IPV and VAC in primary…
The Unified Protocol (UP) is a flexible, transdiagnostic form of cognitive behavioral therapy that effectively treats diverse psychiatric conditions in children, adolescents and adults. However, the UP has not been rigorously evaluated among children who have experienced severe trauma and may have limited caregiver involvement in their life.
The present research project was a single arm, open trial examining the feasibility of utilizing the UP within a residential treatment facility in Calgary, Canada for children involved with child welfare authorities who often have limited caregiver…
Exploring the Determinants of Child Marriage Among Males and Females in Vietnam: A Survival Analysis
While the determinants of child marriage among females have been well-documented, there is a lack of research on the determinants of child marriage among males. In Vietnam, where child marriage persists despite legal restrictions, understanding the profile of child grooms and brides is crucial for developing effective interventions.
This study aims to bridge the gap in the literature by using Cox proportional hazards regression models to investigate the determinants of child marriage among males and females. The findings of this research reveal that higher levels of education, ideally…
Objective:
This study aims to compare adolescent and caregiver reports of adolescent ACEs and their relationship with current adolescent depression and to analyze the relationship between ACEs and depression.
Methods:
The authors recruited 46 adolescent-caregiver dyads from a large inner city medical center's adolescent medicine clinic. Adolescents and caregivers completed the Center for Youth Wellness ACE questionnaire, encompassing traditional ACEs (e.g., abuse, neglect, household dysfunction) and non-traditional ACEs (e.g., foster care, parental death, exposure to…
Violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC) are public health issues of global concern. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a commonly occurring form of VAW and there is evidence to suggest that IPV and VAC frequently co-occur within the same families.
This systematic literature review searched for studies published in any language between 1st January 2000 to 16th February 2021 and identified 33 studies that provided findings for co-occurring IPV and VAC in 24 low- and middle-income countries (PROSPERO: CRD42020180179). These studies were split into subgroups…

Introduction:
The Orphans and Vulnerable Children's (OVC) crisis has raised the need for alternative solutions to OVC's problems. These new alternatives gave prominence to the growth of community-based organizations (CBOs) and their interventions. Community-based interventions are a crucial component of the response to make sure components of the response to ensure that the demands of OVCs are mitigated as they offer initial support and act as well-being nets.
Methods:
A qualitative exploratory-descriptive design was used to explore possible approaches to…
The number of missing child reports exceed police investigative capacity, yet some incidents are linked with harm, making effective risk assessment essential for safeguarding. Police data likely underrepresents harm to missing children due to harm being undisclosed, and missing incidents going unreported. A better understanding of harm associated with missing children could help to develop appropriate interventions to reduce missing incidents and prevent harm.
This study examined 18 months of published Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews across England – a previously overlooked resource…
This study investigates the well-being of primary caregivers responsible for orphaned and vulnerable children in Ethiopia. Well-being is defined as overall wellness, happiness, and satisfaction.
Through mixed methods case studies and purposive sampling, the authors analyzed data from the Ziway Food for the Hungry Ethiopia program in 2017. Their explanatory analytic approach highlighted issues including resource constraints, chronic illnesses, and community challenges faced by the respondents. Nonetheless, spiritual well-being emerged as a crucial factor for their coping mechanisms.
The…
