Children who experience deprivation of liberty are distinguished by a high prevalence of complex, co-occurring health needs that necessitate coordinated, high-quality healthcare. The study is the first analysis of the medical records of children as young as six months old and a median age of nine years old detained between June 2018 and October 2020 at Karnes County Family Residential Center in Texas. This is the CRC Committee’s report to the 77th session of the UN General Assembly which includes a section on the Day of General Discussion (DGD) on children’s rights and alternative care and the recommendations emanating from that process (pg. 16).
