Eurochild stands alongside 14 other NGOs to call on the international community to protect all children, from Ukraine and beyond
A year has passed since the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, which has affected and displaced millions of children. Despite the international community’s repeated calls for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, the plight of children and young people caught in this atrocious war remain, with little end in sight.
Children are among the most vulnerable in times of war, with their fundamental rights consistently…
Children who are in alternative care facilities experience unacceptable rates of violence prior to entering care, during care, and potentially after they leave care. Prior to a transition into care, children are often exposed to violence in the home through abuse or neglect, or in their community or broader socioecological context.
This chapter in the book, "Psychological Perspectives on Understanding and Addressing Violence Against Children: Towards Building Cultures of Peace", uses a polyvictimization framework to explore how violence impacts children in various types of alternative care…
This document serves as a guiding framework for those involved in the development of comprehensive national Care Systems as a pillar of social protection in Latin American and the Caribbean. The authors believe that these systems should be designed from a human rights perspective, with particular emphasis on mainstreaming the gender perspective to achieve care models co-responsible between the State, the market, the community, and families, and between men and women.
This study explores young people’s perceptions of their existential well-being during the transition after leaving care. The authors use the theoretical framework of ‘existential well-being,’ which is a relational approach. The study deploys participatory action research methodology and involves peer research with 74 young people leaving care aged 17–32 in Finland (2011–2012) and England (2016–2018). The data was gathered through semi-structured interviews and thematically analysed.
We identified three inter-linking categories of existential well-being related to the basic issues of being…
