Webinar Recording: Transforming Children's Care Webinar #7: Foster Care

Transforming Children's Care Global Collaborative Platform

This webinar is the seventh in the Transforming Children's Care Webinar Series. Foster carers can play a crucial role in providing children in need of alternative care with safety, protection and stability in a family-based setting whilst efforts are made to address challenges that have led to child-family separation or to identify a more permanent alternative care solution for children who cannot be reintegrated within their families. With many countries in the process of developing or strengthening their foster care systems, often as part of broader care reforms, there is an important opportunity to share learning from a variety of contexts. This will allow participants to reflect on what has worked, what has been challenging, and what different models and approaches have been used to make foster care a real and effective solution for children needing alternative care. This webinar, co-hosted with the Martin James Foundation, explores lessons learned in the development and strengthening of foster care systems in a number of countries and contexts, including emerging foster care systems in Bulgaria, Uganda, Cambodia, and Bangladesh as well as the more established foster care system in the UK, with a view to examining challenges and successes in implementation. The webinar was moderated by Rebecca Smith, Global Head of Child Protection Programmes, Save the Children International.
