Abstract
This article has been developed based on a systematic review of research studies conducted in the last 10 years on family-based childcare systems and a rapid review of research and assessments conducted in 2020 to explore the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on adoption and foster care in India. The study explains child vulnerabilities with a focus on challenges to adoption and foster care before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the paper will focus on how the LGBTQ+ community is unfairly affected by the system in place. Abstract
This chapter compares and contrasts trends in international adoption in the two countries over a period of 27 years from 1992 to 2018. The data presented are based on statistics provided by 20+ receiving States. The period reviewed saw a sharp rise in the global number of intercountry adoptions from 14,000 in 1992 to 45,000 in 2005, followed by a steady decline over the next 14 years.
