This paper investigates the effects of a migration control policy in mega cities after 2014 in China on parent–child separation. One of the key initiatives of the policy is to restrict the access of migrant children to public education in cities. The authors found that the policy contributes to an increased probability of children being left…

Before the full-scale invasion by Russia in February, 2022, Ukraine had one of the highest rates of child institutionalization in Europe. A significant percentage of these children – probably the majority – have disabilities. Institutionalization has been proven to be inherently harmful for all children, but babies and children with disabilities are at the highest risk of harm.
Moreover, since the war began, institutionalized children have been at a heightened risk of various forms of harm compared with their peers raised in families. In addition, the hardships caused by war – internal…

Abstract
Arab women in East Jerusalem live in a traditional, patriarchal society with most women fulfilling traditional roles as wives and mothers. They are also part of the national ethnic minority, forming a unique cultural and political context. There is scant research on the experiences and perceptions of mothers whose children are removed from home to residential or foster care, with very little research on this topic in the Arab population.
Here the authors examined the effects of removing children to out-of-home settings both for reasons of child abuse and/or neglect and…
