This report explores what family means to children and adults in five countries using the digital storytelling technique. Digital storytelling uses storytelling methods to gain deep insights into feelings and experiences. Participants create individual stories about aspects of their own lives using still images and sound. Stories range from the impacts on children of family separation, multiple care moves, grief and not being heard; to the importance of meeting children’s needs, strengthening families, and supporting children’s resilience and tenacity. The importance of children being well cared for in families is widely recognised in global policies and guidance. There is extensive research demonstrating clearly the importance of a safe and caring family for child wellbeing and development. Measures of parenting, home environment, family-violence, decision-making, and health-status were administered at pre/post and follow-up. Families reported high satisfaction post-intervention. OMCI scores improved for 4.8…
Launching in 2013, the Global Alliance for Children (GAC) represented an inspiring commitment to support and improve outcomes for children throughout their life cycle, especially children most at risk of harm. Inspired by a big idea, the GAC set out to create a shared vision and actionable plan that could transform current funding and programming practices to enable a better approach for children. This was to be a large-scale initiative with transformational impact on the ground. Despite early enthusiasm and high interest, the Alliance shuttered its offices in October 2018.

ABC included provision of training, essential equipment, and a quality improvement (QI) initiative which combined clinical and QI mentorship within a learning collaborative. We describe ABC implementation outcomes, including development of a QI change…
