Introduction
This paper summarises findings from an initial scoping study, which seeks to review how child protection outcomes are captured when monitoring multi-purpose humanitarian cash programmes. The study intends to inform the development and piloting of new approaches to integrating child protection concerns into multi-purpose cash monitoring frameworks. It was conducted for the Alliance for Child Protection’s, Cash Transfer and Child Protection Task Force.
As the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC [WRC, 2018]) points out, humanitarian crises are often dangerous contexts that put…
Summary
The importance of children being well cared for in families is widely recognised in global policies and guidance. There is extensive research demonstrating clearly the importance of a safe and caring family for child wellbeing and development. While there is consensus on the importance of effective care in families for children, there is a lack of discussion and agreement about the precise components of this care. In particular, further exploration is needed to determine which elements of effective care are universal and which are culturally or contextually specific, and to explore…

A 7.8-magnitude quake, followed by a 7.5-magnitude tremor, struck southeastern Turkey on Feb. 6, killing more than 46,000 people in the country and neighbouring Syria. Then on Monday, just as people were starting to catch their breath, two more quakes and several aftershocks hit.
Turkey's government told the Washington Post last week that the families of 263 rescued…
Abstract
Background
Global efforts are being made to combat child maltreatment (CM); however, in 2011 the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) response to this issue was found to be mediocre. Several developments have been implemented in KSA since then, and reevaluation is now necessary.
Objective
To assess the CM-prevention readiness (CMPR) of KSA in regard to implementing large-scale, evidence-based CM-prevention programs.
Participants and Setting: Key informants based in KSA who were decision makers and senior managers in the CM field; face-to-face interviews were conducted in…
The statistics show that children move in great numbers, and many do so alone. While some of the reasons which motivate them to undertake such journeys alone are similar to those of adults – e.g. wars, pursuing aspirations for better social and economic opportunities, ethnic violence, cultural differences, examples of others migrating – others are more specific to children, such as forced child marriages, lack of educational opportunities, forced conscription or being sent ahead to realize family reunification in another country. Similar to adult companions, they suffer and react to ‘…

Abstract
The current study aims to reveal the psychological stresses faced by orphaned children in orphanages. For the purpose of access to the results, the researcher adopted the Psychological Stress Scale (Al-Jamaan and Ali, 2016) which was applied to a sample of Fifty children of the orphans; the data were presented in the Spss program. The results show that using the T-test for one sample, the sample has psychological stresses in general. This is a natural result since the sample did not live in a natural family environment filled with love and tenderness. By using the T-test for two…
The provision of child protection services varies considerably across the world. This paper offers a broad overview of some of the main approaches to child protection used internationally. Using examples from Canada, Sweden, Belgium and the Gaza Strip, it offers policy-makers the chance to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches, as well as how these examples might be used to inspire improvements within the Australian context.
Abstract
Social work policies emphasize the importance of encouraging parent-child contact to enhance the well-being of children in care. However, there is little research on the frequency and quality of contact between adolescents in residential care settings (RCSs) and their mothers and fathers. Research based on the self-reports of youth in RCSs is also limited. This study was based on a random cluster sample of 1409 youth, aged 13 to 20, in Israeli educational RCSs designed for youth from underprivileged backgrounds. It examined the youths' self-reports of the perceived availability of…
